Kuppi-ainen

As you may know, I've been learning Finnish for a while,  so I obviously have to learn how about word declension.
I am quite curious about things, especially name etymology, so our beloved Matias "The Wizard" Kupiainen - or "Add to cart" for close friends - couldn't not attract my attention. "Kuppi" is a Finnish word that means "cup", like in "coffee cup", "-ainen" is a suffix that roughly means "someone who lives in/by", so I guess you know where this is going.

When you decline the noun "kuppi", it often looses a "p", which resulted in my reasoning, which is the following: If "kuppi" means "cup", and "ainen" something like "someone who lives [in]", would it mean that Matias' surname means "One who lives in a cup"?
